CA-FIRE Vertical Low Expansion Foam Generator

The PCL Series Vertical Low Expansion Foam Generator is a core device of liquid-injection low expansion foam fire suppression systems. It mixes proportioned foam solution with air to produce foam, which is discharged through a deflector or foam nozzle to cover the burning surface.

The foam layer extinguishes fire by smothering, cooling, and cutting off oxygen. The vertical design allows flexible installation in pipelines or spaces with limited horizontal room, ensuring stable foam production and effective fire suppression.

Operating parameters:

Inlet pressure: 0.3–0.6 MPa

Flow formula: Q = K(W10P), flow varies with inlet pressure and should be calculated for actual working conditions.

The PCL generator is widely used in industrial facilities, fuel storage, chemical plants, and other high-risk fire protection areas, providing reliable and efficient fire suppression.

Key Features & Advantages

Space-Saving Vertical Design The PCL Series features a compact vertical orientation specifically engineered for environments with limited horizontal floor space. This design allows for seamless integration into vertical pipeline networks, offering superior installation flexibility in complex industrial layouts.

Consistent Performance & Wide Flow Range With a guaranteed expansion ratio of 5 times or higher, this generator ensures high-quality foam consistency for rapid fire blanketing. Available in models ranging from 4 L/s to 24 L/s, it provides precise flow control across various fire protection scales and tank sizes.

Superior Suppression & Industrial Durability Engineered to extinguish fires through a triple-action mechanism of cooling, smothering, and oxygen isolation. Built with high-grade, corrosion-resistant materials, the PCL generator ensures long-term reliability and efficient air suction even in harsh chemical or industrial environments.

Installation Requirements and Precautions

Installation Requirements

Pipeline Flushing: Before installing the generator, the supply pipeline must be thoroughly flushed. This ensures that any welding slag, dirt, or debris is removed to prevent the generator nozzle from becoming blocked.

Vertical Alignment: Ensure the generator is mounted strictly in its vertical orientation as per the design specifications. This ensures the internal air suction and foam expansion processes function at peak efficiency.

Storage Tank Openings: The openings on the storage tank wall must match the specified flange dimensions (e.g., PCL4/8 vs. PCL16/24). Use the correct guide board group to direct the foam onto the tank wall smoothly.

Secure Mounting: Use high-strength bolts and gaskets to ensure airtight and liquid-tight connections at both the inlet and outlet flanges.

Key Precautions

Sealed Glass Disk: The unit is equipped with a fragile glass seal at the outlet to prevent tank vapors from escaping into the piping.

Orientation: The side of the glass with the "shatter score" (pre-cut scratch) must face the outlet (towards the tank).

Installation Timing: The glass should only be installed after the system pipe testing and debugging are completed to avoid accidental breakage.

Air Intake Clearance: Ensure the air suction ports on the generator body are never obstructed. Adequate ventilation around the unit is required to allow the mixing of air and foam solution.

Avoid Nozzle Blockage: The nozzle is the most critical part of the generator. Periodically check that no insects, nests, or corrosion products have entered the air intake or discharge path.

Compatibility: Only use the foam concentrate type (e.g., AFFF, Fluoroprotein) and concentration (3% or 6%) that the system was designed for. Mixing different brands or types can cause system failure.

FAQ

Q1: What is the working pressure range of the PCL foam generator?
A1: The working pressure range is 0.3–0.6 MPa. The flow of foam solution can be calculated using the formula Q = K(W10P).

Q2: What is the difference between the PCL series and PC series?
A2: The PCL series is designed for vertical installation, suitable for pipeline or space-limited areas. The PC series is for horizontal installation. Both operate under low expansion foam systems.

Q3: What is the expansion ratio of the foam?
A3: The PCL series produces foam with an expansion ratio ≥5, ensuring effective fire coverage and suppression.

Q4: What applications is the PCL series suitable for?
A4: It is widely used in industrial facilities, fuel storage areas, chemical plants, warehouses, and other high-risk fire protection sites.

Q5: How is the flow capacity determined?
A5: The flow capacity varies with inlet pressure. It should be calculated according to the formula Q = K(W10P), where Q is the foam solution flow, K is the flow coefficient, and P is the inlet pressure.
