India Faces 96% Shortage In, Says FSAI Chief

India is currently facing a 96 % shortfall in public fire‑infrastructure, according to Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI). At the recent India Fire and Security Yatra 2025 in Indore, FSAI national president Srinivas Valluri articulated that the country is far below the global standard of one fire station per 50,000 people. He pointed out that many existing fire stations are non‑operational, some fire trucks are idle for lack of fuel or maintenance, and major facilities-such as hospitals-lack essential fire‑safety measures and certification. Valluri further revealed that electrical faults account for approximately 60 % of fire incidents in India, with negligence contributing to around 33 %. The shortfall in infrastructure and maintenance is compounded by an over‑reliance on private establishments and citizens to comply, while public investment remains insufficient. FSAI is collaborating with the Madhya Pradesh government ahead of the high‑risk Simhastha 2028 event to develop upgraded fire‑safety protocols and technology‑enabled training (including virtual reality and AI‑based simulation). For companies in the fire‑protection sector, this gap presents significant opportunities: expanding infrastructure, retrofitting older buildings, implementing up‑to‑date sprinkler systems, and deploying smart monitoring solutions. While the demand is urgent, customers may require extended lead times, budget support or phased implementation plans given the scale of the challenge in India.
