Fire Cabinet

Carbon Steel & Stainless Steel

A wall-mounted or recessed enclosure that houses a fire hose reel, extinguisher, or hydrant valve at a fixed, marked location, keeping the equipment protected, visible, and ready between inspections. Built to order in carbon steel or 304 / 316 stainless steel, sized to the equipment and fire rating your project specifies.

1

What It Is

A fire cabinet is a lockable or break-glass enclosure mounted on a wall, in a corridor recess, or on a stand, holding the fire hose reel, extinguisher, or hydrant valve required at that point in a building's fire protection layout. Its job has two parts that pull in different directions: the equipment inside must be reachable in seconds during an emergency, and it must stay protected from dust, impact, and tampering for years of unattended standby.

The shell resolves that tension. A folded and welded steel or stainless steel body gives the enclosure the rigidity to survive corridor traffic and forklift knocks, while the door - glazed, louvred, or solid, hinged or break-glass - controls how fast the equipment comes out when it's actually needed. Everything about the cabinet, from gauge to hinge type, is a trade-off tuned to where it will hang and what it will hold.

TYPICAL CONFIGURATIONS

Fire hose reel cabinet (single reel, 19–25mm hose)

Fire extinguisher cabinet (single / double unit)

Combination cabinet (hose reel + extinguisher)

Fire hydrant / landing valve cabinet

Full equipment cabinet (hose, valve, axe, nozzle, breathing set)

Shell Material: Where the Trade-off Sits

The shell carries no fire-suppression function of its own - it simply has to survive its installation environment for the life of the building while keeping the equipment inside dust-free and undamaged. That survival requirement is what decides the material, not the fire rating of the equipment inside, which is identical whether the box around it is carbon steel or stainless.

Carbon steel, cold-rolled and powder-coated, is the default for dry indoor corridors, stairwells, and plant interiors where the coating film is the only barrier the steel needs against moisture. It is the lower-cost route to a rigid, code-compliant enclosure and is what most interior building stock specifies. Stainless steel earns its premium the moment the environment introduces chloride, humidity, wash-down chemicals, or UV - conditions where a scratched paint film becomes a corrosion starting point but bare stainless does not.

QUICK SELECTION RULE

Dry indoor corridor, office, residential → Carbon steel, powder-coated

Coastal, marine deck, humid plant → SUS 304 stainless

Chemical wash-down, chloride exposure, offshore → SUS 316 stainless

Outdoor, unsheltered, high UV → Stainless, brushed or mirror finish

Material Comparison

Carbon Steel

Cold-rolled SS400 / Q235 sheet, folded and welded, finished with an epoxy-polyester powder coat baked on after phosphate pre-treatment. Standard finish is signal red per local fire-equipment colour codes.

Lowest installed cost per cabinet; coating film requires the wall it hangs on to stay dry. Not recommended for exposed exterior or wash-down locations.

Best for: indoor corridors, stairwells, offices, warehouses

Stainless Steel 304

SUS304 (18/8) sheet, brushed No.4 finish standard, mirror or matte on request. Corrosion resistance comes from the chromium oxide layer in the steel itself, not an applied coating.

Holds up to humidity, condensation, and routine washdown; not the first choice where chloride exposure is sustained, such as direct sea-air or de-icing salt contact.

Best for: coastal buildings, food plants, hospitals, humid plant rooms

Stainless Steel 316

SUS316 sheet with added molybdenum, giving materially better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 in chloride-rich air or liquid contact.

Specified where the cost premium is justified by the environment - offshore platforms, ship decks, chemical plants, and coastal installations under direct salt spray.

Best for: marine, offshore, chemical, chloride wash-down environments

Where It Gets Installed

Commercial Buildings

Recessed corridor and stairwell cabinets, powder-coated carbon steel, glazed break-glass door for fast access under building fire codes.

Industrial Plants

Surface-mounted cabinets near process areas and loading bays, heavier gauge steel for impact resistance from forklift and equipment traffic.

Marine & Offshore

SUS316 shells with sealed gaskets and marine-grade hardware for deck and engine-room installations under constant salt exposure.

Coastal & Humid Sites

SUS304 cabinets for hotels, food processing, and hospital buildings where wash-down and ambient humidity rule out painted steel.

Car Parks & Tunnels

Louvred or solid-door carbon steel cabinets rated for higher ambient dust and vehicle exhaust exposure.

Residential Towers

Slimline recessed cabinets sized to fit standard wall cavities, finished to match corridor architectural schemes.

Data Centres & Cleanrooms

Stainless cabinets specified for low-particulate environments where painted surfaces are restricted.

Export & Distributor Projects

OEM/ODM cabinets built to client drawings, national standards, and private branding for turnkey project supply.

FAQ

FAQ

Q: Should I choose carbon steel or stainless steel for my project?

A: Choose based on the installation environment, not the equipment inside. Dry indoor corridors are well served by powder-coated carbon steel; anywhere with humidity, wash-down, or chloride exposure should move to SUS304 or SUS316 stainless.

Q: Can the cabinet be sized to fit an existing wall recess?

A: Yes. Cabinets are built to project drawings, including recessed depth, door swing direction, and equipment bracket layout supplied by the client.

Q: What door options are available?

A: Glazed break-glass doors for fastest access, louvred doors for ventilated equipment sets, and solid doors with lock cylinders for restricted-access locations, in single or double-leaf configurations.

Q: Do you support private label and custom branding?

A: Yes. OEM/ODM production is available, including client logo application, custom signage text, and colour matching to project or brand standards.

Q: What standards do the cabinets reference?

A: Cabinets are built to national and regional fire-equipment codes as specified per project, including GB, EN, and NFPA-referenced dimensional and hardware requirements. Confirm the applicable standard for your jurisdiction at order stage.
