Foam Bladder Tank Flling Procedure

Foam Bladder Tank Flling Procedure

Foam bladder tanks are critical components in foam fire suppression systems, designed to store foam concentrate separately from water until activation. Proper filling ensures the system functions reliably during emergencies.

FOAM BLADDER TANK FLLING PROCEDURE

1. Pre-Filling Preparation

Safety Checks

Ensure the tank is depressurized and isolated from the water supply and fire suppression system (close all isolation valves).

Wear appropriate PPE: gloves, safety glasses, and chemical-resistant clothing (foam concentrate may be corrosive or irritant).

Verify the tank is clean and free of debris, rust, or residual fluids (flush with clean water if necessary).

Confirm the foam concentrate type matches the system requirements (e.g., AFFF, FFFP) and is within its expiration date.

Equipment Readiness

Prepare a transfer pump (electric or manual) compatible with the foam concentrate.

Use clean, dedicated hoses (avoid cross-contamination with other chemicals).

Have a flow meter or graduated container to measure the required volume of foam concentrate.

2. Determine Filling Volume

Calculate the correct volume of foam concentrate needed, based on the tank's design capacity and the system's foam-to-water ratio (e.g., 3% or 6% AFFF).

Example: For a 1,000-liter tank designed for 3% concentrate, the foam volume = 1,000L × 3% = 30L.

Never overfill the bladder-leave adequate space for expansion (follow manufacturer guidelines, typically 5–10% of total volume).

3. Filling the Bladder

Connect Hoses

Attach one end of the transfer hose to the foam concentrate storage drum.

Connect the other end to the tank's foam fill port (located on the bladder's inlet valve).

Transfer Foam Concentrate

Start the transfer pump and slowly fill the bladder with the measured foam concentrate.

Monitor the filling process to avoid spills or overfilling.

Stop pumping once the calculated volume is reached.

Close Valves

Shut off the transfer pump and disconnect the hoses.

Securely close the tank's foam fill port valve to prevent leaks.

4. Post-Filling Checks

Inspect the bladder for leaks (visually or via pressure testing, if required).

Reconnect the tank to the water supply system (open isolation valves gradually to avoid sudden pressure surges).

Record the filling date, concentrate type, volume, and batch number in the system maintenance log.

5. Safety & Maintenance Notes

Dispose of any spilled foam concentrate according to local environmental regulations.

Clean hoses and equipment immediately after use to prevent residue buildup.

Schedule regular inspections to check for bladder degradation, valve functionality, and concentrate quality.

Always refer to the tank manufacturer's specific instructions, as procedures may vary slightly based on design (e.g., diaphragm vs. bladder type) or model.

Product Material

Carbon steel foam tanks offer notable benefits: excellent durability and impact resistance, ideal for harsh environments. They boast high strength to withstand pressure, ensuring stable operation. Cost-effective compared to alloys, they're easy to fabricate and maintain. With good corrosion resistance (when properly treated), they provide long service life, making them reliable for fire suppression systems.

Production process

The production process of horizontal foam tanks: Prepare carbon steel plates, heads, etc., after inspection. Cut and roll plates into cylinders; stamp heads. Weld components via submerged arc welding, with flaw detection. Make rubber bladders, test pressure. Assemble bladders, install valves, pipes. Sandblast, paint for corrosion resistance. Conduct pressure tests (1.5× working pressure) to ensure sealing. Final inspection before delivery.
