This two-way Siamese Fire Department Connection is the point where an engine company takes over a building's water supply during a fire event, so every part of it is built to work without hesitation after months or years of sitting idle outdoors. The body is cast in a single piece from corrosion-resistant brass rather than assembled from plated steel, which means the threads, the clapper seats and the mounting flange stay true even after repeated freeze-thaw cycles, road salt exposure, and UV weathering. Two independent inlets let a pumper connect from either side of the apparatus and combine flow into one outlet feeding the riser, while a spring-loaded clapper on each inlet stops water from discharging back out through the side that isn't in use.
