How fire sprinklers work

Once the temperature threshold is exceeded, the sprinkler releases water onto the fire, helping to control the spread.

Fire sprinklers are highly effective in controlling fires. They are designed to extinguish or contain fires in their early stages, before they can cause significant damage. In fact, studies have found that buildings with a fire sprinkler system are up to 90% less likely to experience a catastrophic fire.

How fire sprinklers are used in a fire emergency

     When a fire occurs, the heat from the fire causes the sprinkler's temperature-sensitive bulb or fusible link to release the valve of the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head then sprays water into the immediate area of the fire, which helps to cool the fire and prevent its spread. The activation of one sprinkler head is usually enough to control most fires. However, if the fire is large or spreading quickly, multiple fire sprinklers will activate to extinguish the fire.
