INTERSCHUTZ 2026: World's Largest Fire & Rescue Trade Fair Returns To Hannover

INTERSCHUTZ 2026 Draws Record Attendance in Hannover

The fire and rescue industry's most significant global gathering, INTERSCHUTZ 2026, concluded its six-day run at Messe Hannover, Germany, on June 6, 2026. Held under the theme "Safeguarding Tomorrow," the event confirmed its status as the world's premier platform for firefighting, civil protection, rescue services, and emergency response technology.

This edition of INTERSCHUTZ-held once every five years-set records across nearly every metric. A total of 1,750 exhibitors from 55 countries showcased products and solutions across more than 118,000 square meters of exhibition space, surpassing all previous editions in scale and international participation. Organiser Deutsche Messe AG reported that more than half of all attendees were international visitors, reflecting the event's growing global reach.

"The face of INTERSCHUTZ has changed significantly in recent years," said Dr. Jochen Köckler, CEO of Deutsche Messe AG. "What began in its early years as a pure firefighting trade fair has long since evolved into a world-leading event focused on protecting people in a wide range of crisis situations."

INTERSCHUTZ 2026:

Key Themes: AI, Climate Resilience, and Integrated Solutions

Three overarching themes shaped the 2026 edition of INTERSCHUTZ:

Artificial intelligence and digital emergency management featured prominently across exhibitor stands and the official INTERSCHUTZ Forum. Industry leaders and researchers demonstrated how AI-assisted systems, robotics, and connected control centers are transforming incident command, situational awareness, and resource deployment during large-scale emergencies.

Climate change and wildfire response occupied a central position on the agenda. As wildfire events intensify globally-from southern Europe to North America and Australia-the demand for specialized equipment including fire monitors, high-volume foam systems, and rapid-deployment hose assemblies continues to accelerate. Exhibitors presented new suppression strategies adapted for wildland-urban interface scenarios.

Integrated civil protection solutions marked a shift in how manufacturers position themselves. Rather than presenting standalone products, exhibitors increasingly showcased end-to-end system solutions-combining detection, suppression, communication, and rescue capabilities into unified platforms designed to improve overall emergency preparedness.

Notable Highlights on the Exhibition Floor

One of the most-visited installations was a fully equipped mobile field hospital from the German Red Cross (DRK), covering 3,000 square meters in Hall 23. The exhibit demonstrated medical infrastructure operations during crisis and disaster response, underscoring INTERSCHUTZ's expansion beyond firefighting into broader civil protection.

Major industry names including Rosenbauer, Dräger, Desautel, BMW, MSA, and Tatra Trucks exhibited alongside hundreds of specialist manufacturers from across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The INTERSCHUTZ Forum 2026 was fully booked ahead of the event, featuring expert speakers addressing fire and rescue sector developments expected to shape the coming five years.

Communication and control center technology also drew significant attention. The BDBOS showcased next-generation digital radio infrastructure for emergency services, reflecting the increasing role of connectivity in modern firefighting and disaster response operations.

Fire Protection Equipment in Focus

For fire protection equipment manufacturers and procurement professionals, INTERSCHUTZ 2026 provided a comprehensive view of where the industry is heading. Key product categories generating strong buyer interest included:

Firefighting nozzles and hose equipment: Demand for versatile, high-performance fire nozzles remains strong globally. Buyers from municipal fire departments, industrial facilities, and civil defense agencies evaluated options across smooth bore, combination, automatic, and foam nozzle categories. See our Fire Nozzle knowledge section for a complete technical overview.

Sprinkler systems and suppression valves: Fire sprinklers and associated fire valves-including wet alarm valves, deluge valves, and preaction systems-continue to be specification priorities for commercial and industrial construction projects worldwide. Learn more in our Fire Valve knowledge section and Fire Sprinkler knowledge section.

Foam suppression systems: With industrial fire risks growing across petrochemical, energy, and logistics sectors, foam concentrate, foam bladder tanks, and foam chambers attracted substantial attention from project buyers and EPC contractors.

Fire hydrant systems: Infrastructure procurement for fire hydrants, landing valves, and associated fittings remained a key purchasing category for government and municipal buyers attending from across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
