What is indoor fire hydrant?

An indoor fire hydrant, also known as a standpipe, is an essential component of a building's fire sprinkler system. It is a pipe system that connects directly to a building's main water supply and is designed to provide firefighters with an immediate water supply in the event of a fire. Indoor fire hydrants are located on every floor of a building, usually in stairwells or corridors, and are typically marked with a red "FIRE" sign.
Indoor fire hydrants are classified as either dry or wet standpipes. Dry standpipes are commonly found in buildings where the water system is not pressurized, such as high-rise buildings. A dry standpipe uses a dry-pipe valve to allow water to flow into the system when needed. Wet standpipes, on the other hand, are filled with water and are pressurized at all times. They are typically used in low-rise buildings or in buildings where the water supply is under pressure.
Indoor fire hydrants consist of several components, including valves, outlets, couplings, and hoses. Valves control the flow of water to the system. Outlets provide access to the water supply for firefighting purposes. Couplings connect different sections of the pipeline together. Hoses are used to direct water to the fire and extinguish it.
